He was retired from Louisiana Hunt Petroleum, a member of Tullos First Baptist Church and a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during World War II. He was born December 11, 1926 in Urania to the union of Howard H. and Ruth Weaver Harris. Services were held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, December 24, at Tullos First Baptist Church with the Revs. William L. Smith, James Brown and Gary Wright, officiating. Burial followed in Zion Cemetery of Georgetown under direction of Kinner and Stevens Funeral Home of Jena. Survivors include his wife, Mary Long Harris of Georgetown; one daughter, Angela Pyles of Pineville; two sons, Mark H. Harris of Baton Rouge and Matt Harries of Winnfield; one brother, Jerry Harris of Urania and seven grand- children. Pallbearers were Bill Pepitone, Doug Winberry, Jimmie Harris, Ikey Harris, Jeff Horne, James Long, Jerry Long and Darrel Wilson. (The Jena Times, Wednesday, December 31, 1997)
