Holmes, 76, of Georgetown, died Tuesday, January 27, 1998, in St. Frances Cabrini Hospital in Alexandria. She was a member of Georgetown Baptist Church for over 50 years and a member of Georgetown Garden Club. She was a former nursery caregiver in Houston, Tex. and Baton Rouge, and also a former kindergarten assistant and remedial reading teacher for a number of years. Services were held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 30, at Georgetown Baptist Church with Rev. Brian Hill officiating. Interment followed in the Greenwood Memorial Park under direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Alexandria. Survivors include three sons, Charlie R. Holmes and Joel L. Holmes, both of Baton Rouge and Edward B. Holmes of Georgetown; two daughters, Jane Jones of Georgetown and Rebecca Avery of Dallas, Texas; 15 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
