"Rip" Hinton, 79, of Olla, died Wednesday, July 22, 1998, at North Monroe Hospital in Monroe. He was a retired pilot with McMahan Aviation and a veteran of World War II. He served as a flight instructor in the U.S. Air Force and also taught at West Point Academy. A member of the Caldwell Parish Country Club he was born in West Monroe on December 17, 1918 to the union of Charlie and Ada Graham Hinton. Services were held at 2 p.m., Friday, July 24, 1998 at the Olla United Methodist Church in Olla with the Rev. Jennie Walters officiating. Interment followed in the New Chapel Hill Cemetery of West Monroe under direction of Riser Funeral Home of Olla. Survivors include his wife, Cleo Harris Hinton of Olla; one son, Tracy Hinton of Columbia; one step-son, Michael Gaines of Greensboro, N.C.; two sisters, Lucille Byron of Marshall, Texas and emma Steeples of kokomo, Ms.; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Bernard Miller, hoot Reitzell, Jon McClanahan, Billy Wallace, Wilbur McGrew and Billy Thomas
