All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** Searcy Lake claims life of Jena Man Kenneth "Cooter" Harris, 29 of Jena, drowned near the west shore of Searcy Lake near midnight last Saturday, according to a report from the LaSalle Parish Sheriff's Department. Deputies received a call at 11:42 p.m. that Harris was missing in Searcy Lake, where he and some friends had went in the water. After the rescue unit arrived, it took officers about 20 minutes to recover the body from the lake. Dr. I.C. Turnley Jr., LaSalle Parish Coroner, was called to the scene and pronounced Harris dead and ordered an autopsy. Harris was an oilfield construction worker and was affiliated with Jena Church of God. Services were held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday in Jena Church of God with the Rev. Claudy Gary, officiating. Burial followed in Pine Grove Cemetery of Rhinehart under direction of Hixson Brothers Inc. of Jena. Survivors include his parents, M.H. and Annie Myrl Harris of Jena; three brothers, Malcolm Walden Harris of Wisner and Shelton Neal Harris and Derwin Dee Harris, both of Jena; and a sister Delba Lynn Hudnall of Jena. Pallbearers were David Allbritton, Wesley Eubanks, Danny Roark, Bobby Willis, Robert Ainsworth and J.W. Myles.
