H.Y. Franklin, officiating. Burial followed in Webster Cemetery near Good Pine under direction of Gayden Funeral Home of Jena. Holmes, 80, of Jena, died Friday, November 16, 1990 at St. Frances Cabrini Hospital in Alexandria. Ms. Smith, 29, of Redwood City, Calif., died Nov. 10, 1990, in Crystal Springs Hospital in Redwood City. Holmes' survivors include his wife, Mattie Holmes of Jena; four sons, Phillip Holmes, Ernest Holmes, and Guy Holmes, all of Jena, and Samuel Holmes Jr. of Pacific, Calif.; two daughters, Helen Smith of Jena and Billie Williams of Gettysburg, Md.; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Ms. Smith's survivors include her mother, Helen Smith of Jena; two sisters, Chyree Dean of Grambling and Carolyn Jackson of Jena; three sons, Marcel Smith, Eddie Smith, and David Smith; one daughter, Arlana Smith; her father, James Smith; maternal grandmother, Mattie Holmes of Jena; and paternal grandmother, Addie Smith of Los Angeles, Calif.
