All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** SHERIFF ROY HUFF SUCCUMBS TO PNEUMONIA The death of Roy L. huff of Catahoula parish came as a great shock to his many friends in LaSalle and Catahoula parishes. Mr. huff died at a Monroe hospital Sunday night where he had been sick for several days. He was said to have developed pneumonia causing his death. Mr. Huff was serving his 3rd term as sheriff of Catahoula parish having been elected the first time in 1932. Soon after his election he purchased an ambulance for the conveyance for the needy people to hospitals. He was termed by the late Huey P. Long and Oscar Allen as the originator of free ambulance service in Louisiana. Through this service he has made an enestimated number of friends who will not soon forget him. Huey Long and Oscar Allen both stated publicly, according to friends of the sheriff, that Huff was responsible for the State considering action toward free ambulances. Funeral services were held at Harrisonburg Tuesday under the direction of Winnsboro Funeral Home, of Winnsboro, La. Sheriff Huff leaves to mourn his passing his wife and one daughter, Mrs. Albert Earl Krause of Sicily Island, La and a host of friends.
