Jones, Jr. (Caption under photo) Prominent Eden Citizen died Sunday Emanuel E. Jones, jr. 56, a prominent Eden community citizen, died unexpectedly about 4:30 p.m., Sunday afternoon, January 31, 1999, at his residence in Eden. Better known in the community as "Junior Jones," he had devoted almost 34 years of his life to the Louisiana National Guard. Junior enlisted in the guard on Feb. 13, 1965, and worked his was up through the ranks to Staff Sergeant before becoming a Warrant officer on Dec. 17, 1973. At his death, Jones was Chief Warrant officer-4 (CW4) and was in line for promotion to CW5. When Jones first enlisted, the Jena guard Unit was a transportation unit and in 1970, became an engineering unit. In 1981, the unit changed back to the 1086th Transportation Company. He served as AST (administrative Support Technician) for many years and on Nov. 23, 1998, was named Director of maintenance. Among his service awards were the Army Service Ribbon, National defense Service medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with two oak clusters, Army Achievement Medal with one oak cluster, Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal with six fleur-de-lis, Drivers Badge, Meritorious Service medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal with three bronze service stard. Saudia-Kuwait Liberation Medal issued by Saudia, Saudia-Kuwait Liberation Medal issued by Kuwait, La. General Excellence Medal with six fleur-de-lis, La. Longevity Medal with five fleur-de-lis, La. General Executive Ribbon with six fleur-de- lis, and Louisiana War Cross. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5002 of Jena, and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Jena. He also served as Civil Defense Director for LaSalle Parish. Jones was born March 23, 1942, to the union of Emmanuel and Lillie Whatley Jones, Sr. prominent merchants of the Eden and Jena area. Services were held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 2, at the chapel of Kinner and Stevens Funeral Home of Jena with Rev. Ricky Gresham officiating. Interment followed in the Eden Cemetery of Eden under direction of Kinner and Stevens, Inc., of Jena. Survivors include his wife, Dianne Decker Jones of Eden; and two daughters, Tiffany Jones of Baton Rouge and Tara Jones of Jena. Pallbearers were Rodney Russell, Sidney Amyx, Robert Coleman, Richard Humphries, David Joe McGuffee, and Chris Peters.
