She was a homemaker. Services were held at 10 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 20, in East Jena Baptist Church with the Revs. Craig James and Johnnie Phillips officiating. Interment followed in the Belah Cemetery under direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena. Survivors include four daughters, Nila Zeagler of Olla, Annette Paul of Jena, Cindy Deville of Baton Rouge and Carolyn Jaymes of Mississippi; one son, Jim Eubanks of Deville; two step-daughters, Norma Sandifer and Sue Johnson, both of Jena; one step-son Rev. Rodney Jackson of Lafayette; one brother, Cecil B. Stringer of Natchitoches; 23 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Date: November 17, 1999, Wednesday Headline: Area Deaths – Grady R. Jackson Grady R. Jackson, 91, of Aimwell, died Sunday, November 14, 1999, at 12:20 a.m., at St. Francis Cabrini Hospital in Alexandria. He was an equipment operator and a Baptist. Services were held Monday, November 15, at 3:00 p.m., at the chapel of Kinner and Stevens Funeral Home in Jena, with the Revs. James Paul, David Roberts, and S. B. Spinks officiating. Burial followed at the Mt. Zion Cemetery of Aimwell, under the direction of Kinner and Stevens Funeral Home of Jena. Survivors include one daughter, Beulah Craig of Libuse, Louisiana; one sister, Marie Tillar of Jena; 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Eddie Ray Posey, Chuck Posey, Lionel Posey, Leamon Wilson, Elbert Sanson, and Meredith Poole. "Sonny" Jackson Maury Chestley "Sonny" Jackson, Jr., 76, of Olla, died Monday, August 20, 2001, at his residence following an extended illness. A retired salesman, Jackson had been a resident of LaSalle Parish for many years. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, having served in World War II. He was born June 19, 1925, in Texas to the union of Maury Chestley Jackson, Sr., and Myrtle Williams Jackson. He was affectionately known by his family as "Pa-Paw." Services were held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 22, at the chapel of Riser Funeral Home in Olla with the Revs. Donnie Boney, Rodney Begnaud, and Michael McConnehau officiating. Interment followed in the Olla Cemetery under direction of Riser of Olla. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Lisenby Jackson of Olla; three sons, David Jackson of Waskom, Tx., Maury Wayne Jackson of Calhoun and Jerry Paul Jackson of Grayson; two daughters, Beverly Mitchell of Olla and Sandy Callender of Urania; one sister, Betty Whitfield of Waskom, Tx.; 17 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Date: February 2, 2005, page 3 B Headline: Madge McDuff James Madge McDuff James, 72, of Baton Rouge, and a former resident of Olla, died Wednesday, January 19, 2005, in Our Lady of the Lake regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge after a a long illness. She and her husband, Frank James, moved to Baton Rouge last year after living 19 yearsin McComb, Miss. Previously they had lived in Baton Rouge for 15 years. They had been married for more than 51 years. Mrs. James was born in Huffiness, Texas, to the union of Virgil and Bernice Wall McDuff. The family moved to Olla in 1942 and she graduated in 1950 in the last class to finish at the old Olla-Standard High School. Her husband graduated the next year in the first class at LaSalle High School in Olla. After graduation, she worked as a clerk at the former Dixie Store, a clothing and variety store in downtown Olla, located where the presently community Dixie Center is located. She later managed the store. Services were held Saturday, Jan. 22, at Greenoaks Funeral Home in Baton Rouge with Dr. Mack Amis, pastor of the MCComb First Baptist Church officiating. Interment followed in the Greenoaks Memorial Park under direction of Green Oaks Funeral Home of Baton Rouge. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Merle McDuff Simon; and a brother, R. L. McDuff. He was a resident of Wildsville, a deacon and long-time member of Evangeline Baptist Church of Wildsville. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during World War II. He retired after 30 years with International Paper Company of Natchez, Miss. Services were held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 7, at Evangeline Baptist Church witht he Revs. Mack Walker, Lester Johnson and Dennis Baker officiating. Interment followed in the Evangeline Baptist Church Cemetery under direction of Young's Funeral Home of Jonesville. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Calvin and Annie Johnson Jernigan; a brother, Alvin Jernigan; and three sisters, Myrtis Jernigan Ezell, Shirley Jernigan Enterkin and Inez Jernigan. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Bessie Crooks Jernigan of Wildsville; one son, Jimmy Jernigan and wife Sue of Wildsville; two brothers, Henry Jernigan and wife Ruth of Lincoln, Ne. and Gary Jernigan and wife Pat of Ball; two sisters, Myrtle Eubanks and husband Doc of Jena, and Geraldine Kendell of Tampa, Fla. ; two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
