Keene, 60, of Olla, died unexpectedly Sunday afternoon, April 12, 1998, at his residence in Olla. He was a field superintendent with Hunt Petroleum Company with 35 years of service. He was also a U.S. Army veteran and a member of the Olla Church of Christ. He was born on May 11, 1937, in Ft. Necessity. Services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 14, at the First Baptist Church in Olla with V. W. Hayhurst officiating. Interment followed in the Olla Cemetery under direction of Riser Funeral Home of Olla. Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Fife Keene of Olla; two sons, Julian Terry Keene of Jena and Richie E. Keene of Little Rock, Ark.; his parents, Ernest and Alice Keene of Urania; two brothers, Harold Keene of West Monroe and Scotty Keene of Jena; one sister, Faye Proffer of Highland, Texas; and two grandchildren. Pallbearers were Dick Merideth, Shelby Loe, Lavelle Wells, Bob Lurry, Nathan Poole and Kevin Salters. Honorary pallbearers were Sonny Peterson, Dennis Molan, M. W. Fife, Marty McClure, Danny Price, Sam Guldee, Brent Farley and Darrell Wilson. (The Jena Times, Wednesday, April 15, 1998)
