He was retired from American natural Resources pipeline Company, a member of the First Baptist Church in Jena and a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during World War II where he received the Bronze Star for valor. He was born in McCool, Miss., on Feb. 25, 1917, to the union of M. D. and Lou Ella Koonce. Services were held at 2 p.m., Sunday, July 12, at the chapel of Kinner and Stevens Funeral Home in Jena with Dr. William Poe officiating. Interment followed in the Jena Cemetery of Jena under direction of Kinner and Stevens, Inc., of Jena. Survivors include his wife, Lurlene R. Koonce of Jena; one daughter, Sarah Anne Koonce Farmer of Brick, N.J.; two sisters, Ella Worrell of Durant, Ms. and Velma Worrell of Ackerman, Ms.; and two grandsons. Pallbearers were Gary Compton, Clay White, N. H. Poole, Sonny Peterson, Wendel Wilson, and Leon Gibson.
