The mother, Doris L. Long, 54, and her passenger, Jimmie Tickle, both of West Monroe, were killed at 11:40 p.m. Thursday when a stolen vehicle plowed into them at the intersection of Louisiana Avenue and E.E. Wallace Boulevard as the driver of the stolen vehicle was fleeing from a police officer, authorities said. A passenger in the stolen car, Billy Keene, 40, of Jena, was also killed in the crash. The driver of the stolen car, Robert E. White, 36, of Memphis, Tenn., remained in stable condition Friday in Riverland Medical Center with injuries to his head and ribs. Police Lt. Bobby Ray Sheppard said White has been charged with three counts of manslaughter, two counts of flight from an officer, excessive speeding, improper passing, possession of stolen things, running a red light and driving while intoxicated. Sheppard said events leading to the crash began at 10:40 p.m. Thursday when a 1984 Buick was reported stolen from a Jonesville bar. Area authorities were notified of the car theft, and a Ferriday policeman on patrol positioned himself along U.S. Highway 84 on the outskirts of Ferriday, "thinking the car might come by," he said. When a car matching the description of the stolen vehicle passed, the officer pulled in behind and radioed headquarters for a license check, according to Sheppard. Meanwhile, the car had picked up speed. When the license number confirmed a stolen car report, the officer turned on his lights and began pursuit. "When they were almost to E.E. Wallace Boulevard, the officer said he looked at the speedometer and it was pegged out," Sheppard said. He said the patrol unit's speedometer reads to 85 mph. The chase was believed to have registered speeds in excess of 100 mph. Sheppard said the fleeing car is believed to have been traveling in excess of 100 mph when it hit the Long vehicle. The accident took place at the intersection when White passed an 18-wheeler stopped at a red light and broadsided Ms. Long's 1989 Cadillac which was traveling north on E.E. Wallace Boulevard. Sheppard said the two women were going home to West Monroe after attending Ms. Long's daughter's wedding Thursday in Mississippi. He said the two were wearing seatbelts, but the belts couldn't protect them from the broadside impact. ****************************************************************************** Billy Dale Keene Billy Dale Keene, 42, of Tullos, died at 2:50 a.m. Friday, August 3, 1990, at the Riverland Medical Center from injuries suffered in an automobile accident.
