Date: June 11, 1997, Wednesday Headline: Area Deaths – Pattie Killingsworth Pattie Killingsworth, 91, of Jena, died at 8:20 a.m. Tuesday, June 3, 1997, at the LaSalle General Hospital of Jena. She was a homemaker and member of the Georgetown Baptist Church. She was born January 18, 1906, in Miller County, Ark., to the union of William and Nannie Turner Downs. Services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 5, at the Georgetown Baptist Church with the Revs. Jerry Chaddick and Hartman Sullivan officiating. Interment followed in the Georgetown Cemetery under direction of Kinner and Stevens Funeral Home of Jena. Survivors include three sons, Earl Killingsworth and Bob Killingsworth, both of Jena, and Richard Killingsworth of Houston, Texas; one sister, Juanita Coplen of Indianapolis, In.; five children and five great-grandchildren. Kilpatrick Willis Truitt Kilpatrick, 87, of Westlake, died Thursday, April 10, 2003, in a local hospital. He was a native of Crumby, Texas, and had lived in Westlake for 50 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Westlake, was a member of Masonic Lodge 443 F&AM and was a Scottish Rite Mason and York Mason Rite. Mr. Kilpatrick was a veteran of World War II and served as Westlake city marshal from 1958 to 1961. Services were held at 2 p.m., on Saturday, April 12, in the chapel of Hixson Brothers Fuenral Home of Westlake with Rev. Larry Thompson officiating. Interment followed in the Magnolia Cemetery under the direction of Hixson- Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. Survivors include his wife, Myria Francis Kilpatrick of Westlake; one daughter, Junell Francis of Jena; one brother, W. B. Date: June 2, 1966 Headline: Good Pine Teacher Killed in Wrech Billy Ray Kimble, colored, was killed in a one-car accident last Wednesday evening. The 32-year-old Trout resident was a teacher at Good Pine High School. The accident occurred on La. 127 near the Chickasaw Methodist Church when Kimble, traveling east twoard Jena at a high rate of speed, lost control of his car. According to Cpl. Larry Robertson of the State Police, Kimble's vehicle ran off the road in a curve, knocked down a telephone pole and hit a large tree. His car traveled approximately 425 feet and was demolished. Funeral services were held last Monday, May 30, in the Morning Star Baptist Church of Winnfield with the Rev. H. Y. Bell officiating. Mrs. King was born in Winn Parish on December 23, 1939 to the union of Edwin Sherwood and Edith Williams Fudge and died Thursday, June 24, 2004 at Ochsner's Hospital in New Orleans after fighting a long and courageous battle. She was a homemaker and a retired beautician. She was also a sales representative for Premier Jewelry. She was a lifelong member of the Beulah Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband of 46 years: Milton Carlton King of Georgetown, her mother: Edith Williams Jordan of Georgetown, her son: Edwin Blaine King of Denver, Co., her son and daughter-in-law: Richard C. and Susan King of Georgetown, her daughter and son-in- law: Cari and Gil Harrison of Colfax, her grandchildren: Adam King, Hannah King, Jacob Harrison and Sarah Harrison, her brothers: Lanny Newsome of Georgetown, George Fudge of California and Bob Fudge of Alaska, and her sisters: Fran Jones of Georgetown and Betty Jo Fudge of Mississippi. Pallbearers will be Jarrett Jones, Lawrence Jones, Rusty Jones, Randy Stott, Ricky Stott and Jack Barrett. Honorary are D.A. Green and E. L.Williams. He was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church in Negreet, a veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict and a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Shriners in Sulphur. Date: October 19, 1944, Thursday Headline: Husband of Local Woman Reported Killed in Action Mrs. Dorothy Peyton Kirby has received word from the War Department confirming the death of her husband, Pfc. Lawrence W. Kirby, Jr., on June 6, somewhere in France. Pfc. Kirby was a paratrooper. Mrs. Kirby received a message June 29 stating that her husband was missing in action, followed by the confirmation of his death on September 21. A son, L. W. Kirby, 3rd, resides in Galveston, Tex., with his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. L. W. Kirby Sr. Mrs. Kirby and her small daughter, Linda Sue, reside in Jena. A sister, Mrs. J. D. Date: June 2, 1966 Headline: Mr. Rubin Kitterlin Dies at Good Pine Mr. Rubin Kitterlin, 59, died at 6 p. m. last Monday at his home in Good Pine. Mr. Kitterlin had been a resident of the area for a number of years. He was a member of the Baptist Church, and his son, Hardtner, has worked for a number of years for The Jena Times. Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 1, at Good Pine Baptist Church with the Rev. Gene Swinson and the Rev. K. G. Brooks officiating. Floyd George Knighten, Jr, age 55 of Olla will be held at l0 a.m., Tuesday, August 19, 2003 at the Standard Baptist Church in Olla with Rev. Jerry Wilson officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow in the Olla Cemetery under the direction of Riser Funeral Home of Olla. SGT. Knighten was born on May 6, 1948 in Trout, La. to the union of Floyd George, Sr. and Bertha Wright Knighten and died Wednesday, August 9, 2003 while serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom in Iraq. SGT. Knighten was a 1969 graduate of Sicily Island High School in Sicily Island where he played football. He was a member of St. William Catholic Church and attended Standard Baptist Church in Olla. He was also a member of the Olla Volunteer Fire Department. He loved cooking, fishing and was a workaholic. After graduating from high school, SGT. Knighten enlisted in the Navy and served four years. In 1984, he joined the La. Army National Guard and was a member of the 1087th Transportation Company. He was a full-time Federal Techician. He also served in Operation Desert Shield, Operation Desert Storm and currently Operation Iraqi Freedom. He participated in numerous humanitrian missons in Central American and state emergercies for hurricanes and floods. He also served during the Vietnam Conflict. Survivors include his wife: Lisa Soledad Escobar Knighten, his son: SPC. Floyd George Knighten, III. both of Olla, his sisters: Pearlie Knighten Polk of Wisner and Johnnie Bell Knighten Routon of Olla, and a host of nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be SPC.
