She was born May 3, 1920 to Terry Brown and Mildred Kite Brown of Jena, Louisiana. She is survived by seven children: Sandra Campbell Fiske of Chireno, Texas and her husband Charles, Rick Brown of Spring Branch, Texas, Mary Ann McClenahan of St. Louis, Missouri, Lucy Montano Brown Martin of Portland, Oregon, Elizabeth Jane Offer of San Antonio, Texas, William John Brown Montano of El Paso, Texas and his wife Luve Jane, and James Buck Brown Montano of College Station, Texas, as well as eighteen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Two sisters, Margaret Otwell of Jena and Mary Ellen Edmunson of El Cajon, California have also survived her as well as her sister-in-law Frances Brown of Mira, La, along with many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Mildred Brown, Louise Morton, Nora Praetorius and Elsie Claire Brown and her brothers Terry Brown, Addison Brown, James K. Brown, John Brown, William Brown and Asaph Buck Brown. Sara was a loving mother and a dear “Big Mama” to her grandchildren. She was a member of St. Ann’s and St. Matthew’s Catholic Churches in San Antonio, Texas. She also practiced nursing for many years, both in Shreveport, Louisiana and in San Antonio. The family will receive friends Monday, February 22, 2010 from 6:00pm until 8:00pm at Kinner & Stevens Funeral Home of Jena, and on Tuesday from 8:30am until 12:00pm (Noon). Funeral service will be at St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Jena at 12:30pm on Tuesday, February 23, 2010, with Father Keith Ishmael officiating. Ms. Montano will be laid to rest in the Pentecost Cemetery, Jena, under the direction of Kinner & Stevens Home.
