He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Navy. He was born October 30, 1924 at Oakdale to the union of James Lee Sr. and Vivian Addison Monk. Services were held at 2 p.m., Thursday, July 2, at the chapel of Riser Funeral Home in Columbia with Rev. Alban Poole officiating. Interment followed in the Old Bethel Cemetery near Clarks under direction of Riser, Columbia. Survivors include three daughters, Carolyn Coleman, Evelyn Tullos and Charlotte Barnes, all of Jena; one son, Carl Weatherford of Ocean Springs, Ms.; one brother, Clarence Arthur Monk of Baton Rouge; and seven grandchildren.
