Alex Morace, 18, apparently lost control of his 1965 Plymouth and went off the left shoulder of the road. In cutting back to the right, he left the shoulder and traveled 70 feet in the air before landing on the opposite bank of Cockerham Creek. LaSalle parish sheriff's deputies Alonzo Taylor and H. D. Smith and State Police corporal Larry Robertson investigated the accident. They reported the youth was killed instantly. The officers said Morace was obviously traveling at a high rate of speed over the wet pavement when the accident occurred approximately 4:30 Sunday afternoon. Because there were no witnesses and the wrecked car was hidden by the bridge, the boy's body was not found until 5:45 Monday morning. Johnny Clark Maxwell of Georgetown, who works for the highway district, found him. Funeral services were held Wednesday at Midway Baptist church with the Revs. Willard Bell and S. B. Spinks officiating. Burial was in New Era cemetery under the direction of Hixson Brothers funeral home, Jena. Survivors include one brother, Paul Raymond Morace of the U. S. Navy; four sisters, Mrs. Eva Lemoine of Tucson, Ariz., Mrs. Marilyn Lyles of Rayville, Mrs. Sadie Love and Miss Charline Morace of Jena; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Morace of Jena; his grandmother, Mrs. Oma Evans of Jena. Pallbearers were Joe E. Pecanty, Tillman Pecanty, John Evans, Ed Evans, Lawson Evans and Lonnie Evans, Honorary pallbearers were Herbert Morace, Minor Morace and c. W. Bonds.
