Murphey, 84, died in a Shreveport hospital at 11 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 8. He lived at 2744 Catherine etreet in Shreveport. Survivors are his wife, Mrs. J. N. Murphey of Shreveport; three sons, J. N. Murphey, Jr., of Fort Payne, Ala., Willie Murphey of Guthrie kla.; and Philip T. Murphey of Quitman, Miss.; four daughters, Mrs. Maybel Ussery of Georgetown; Mrs. Lola Kelly of Shreveport; Mrs. Mavis Ayles of Dallas, Texas; and Mrs. Orena Mann of Shreveport, and 12 grandchildren. Funeral services were held Monday at the Free Methodist church in Jena at 2:30 p.m. The Revs. V. T. Bradford and Austin Smith conducted the final rites, with interment following in Belah cemetary under direction of Hixson Brothres Funeral home of Jena. E. Y. Roark, C. L. Manchester, John Tarver, Steve Crooks, Edward Ussery and Willard Estees served as pallbearers for the re-farmer and former resident of LaSalle parish.
