Clarence "Mac" McLendon, 44, a native of LaSalle Parish, died in a freak hunting accident on Saturday, Jan. 6th, when the deer stand in which he was perched collapsed and fell to the ground. McLendon, a native of Trout and resident of Baker, was a U.S. Marine before joining the Baton Rouge police force 22 years ago, splitting his service between the detective and uniformed patrol bureaus. He was promoted to sergent in June 1976 and lieutenant 10 years later. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Baker. Services were held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 9th, at Faith Church in Baker with Rev. Bill Bolden, officiating. Burial was in Hillcrest Cemetery in Baker. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Lee McLendon of Baker; his mother, Mattie Bradford of Jena; three daughters, Angela, Leah and Melody McLendon, all of Baker; two sisters, Faye Manchester of Gretna and Melvalene Myers of Lake Providence. Pallbearers were W. D. Wales, Jurgen Himpler, Leonard Eusay, Lee Leggett, Landon Devall and Barry Wynne. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Baton Rouge Police Department.
