Merritt, 75, of baton Rouge, died at 2:30 a.m. Friday, April 6, 1990, at his residence. He was a native of Moselle, Miss. and a Bapitst minister with over 43 years of service. He was interim pastor of Hooper Road Baptist Church in Baton Rouge. He was also chaplain for Allied Systems of Port Allen and New Orleans. Family members request memorial donations be made to Hospice Foundations of Greater Baton Rouge, Inc. P.O. Box 80497, Baton Rouge, LA. 70898. Services were held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 9th at Welch Funeral Home with Rev. T. W. Terral and Rev. Jim Brian, officiating. Graveside services were held at 4 p.m. Monday at McLaurin Cemetery in Hattiesburg, Miss. Survivors include his wife, Eutha Proctor Merritt of Baton Rouge; two daughters, Patsy Jane Chambers of mobile, Ala. and Rebecca Stringer of Baton Rouge; two sons, Charles David Merritt of Grandin, Mo. and Herman A. Merritt Jr. of Natchez, Miss.; three sisters, Val Suddin of Birmingham, Ala., Mary Katherine Cuccia of New Orleans and Murel Clem of Thomaston, Ga.; a brother, David Tobey Merritt of South Carolina; 11 grandchildren and 7 great- grandchildren.
