All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** Obit of Mrs. Maude McBride Source: Local newspaper 1955 Mrs. Maude Hanes McBride, life long resident of Jena, who died at her home in Jena at the age of 66 about noon Feb. 24, was buried Friday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock with services held at the First Baptist Church in Jena. The Rev. J.P. Owens conducted the final rites, with interment following in Nolley Memorial cemetery under the direction of Nixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena. Mrs. McBride, wife of the late Fred McBride, was a member of the Baptist church from early childhood, first as a member of the old Baptist church in Old Jena, then as a charter member of the First Baptist Church of Jena. She also was an active member of Ruby Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. She attended old MtLebanon college at Keatchie, the forerunner of the present Louisiana College at Pineville, and was active in civic and club work in Jena. Only one child survives, Fred H. McBride of Lynwood, Calif; there are four grandchildren surviving. Following services at the church, graveside rites were conduted by Ruby chapter, OES, under the direction of Mrs. H.D. Gaddis as worthy matron, with others participating, including L.G. Batson, Mrs. E.R. Breithaupt, Mrs. C.J. Girlinghouse, Mrs. J. Spann, Mrs. O.C. Ogle, Mrs. Clyde Russell and Mrs. W.D. Smith. Serving as pallbearers for the final rites were Virgil Terral, Bill Hodges, Herman Creed, Jeddie Ray Hodges, James Hodges and Nick Edwards. (Note: Maude Hanes was the daughter of Alice Lena Young and Sheppard. Hanes, born July 27, 1888 - died February 24, 1955 - married Frederick Horton McBride (b. July 28, 1849 - d. Feb. 13, 1921 - date of marriage unknown)
