NEWSOM, Vera P.

  94, of Jena, died Sunday, September 14, 1997 at the LaSalle General Hospital
of Jena.

  She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church of Jena.

  She was born September 20, 1902, in Caldwell Parish to the union of W.P.
and Lena E. McCrummen Prestridge.

  Services were held Tuesday, September 16, 1997 at the chapel of Kinner and
Stevens Funeral home of Jena with Revs. John Johns and Bo Owens officiating.
  Interment followed in the Old Bethel Cemetery west of Clarks under direction
of Kinner and Stevens, Inc.,of Jena.

  Survivors include one daughter, Violet McCartney of Jena, one son, C.M.
Newsom, Jr., of Carencro; one sister, Hazel Yates of Monroe; one brother, W.P.
Prestridge of Kelly; six grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
