Acklen William E. Acklen, 87, of Jena, died Wednesday, March 1, 2000, at his residence. He was a retired civil engineer for the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission. He was a member of the Baptist faith and a veteran of the U. S. Army, having served during World War II. He was born March 16, 1912, at Arcadia to the union of Charley and Evie Effie Caldwell Acklen. Services were held at 2 p.m., Thursday, March 2, at the chapel of Kinner and Stevens Funeral Home in Jena with the Revs. Lloyd Mayeau and Dominik DiCarlo officiating. Interment followed in the Jena Cemetery of Jena under direction of Kinner and Stevens Inc. of Jena. Survivors include his wife, Ann Acklen of Jena; two sons, Charles Acklen and David Acklen, both of Shreveport; one stepson, Curtis "Butch" Davis of Jena; two brothers, J. E. Acklen of League City, Texas, and J. J. Acklen of Buchanna Dam, Texas; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren and one step great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Bradley Acklen, Bryan Acklen, Joshua Davis, Richard Davis, Bobby Moorehead, and James Colvin. Honorary pallbearers were Paul Jastram, Ralph Wall, and Gorde DeLoach.
