Dr. Butler first became ill with fever and it was not thought that he was in any danger. A week prior to his death; however, he suffered a stroke resembling paralysis and he continued to sink until his untimely death on Friday. The doctor was born in Caldwell Parish September 20, 1857, the son of Jessie J. and Nancy Hill Butler, pioneer residents of that section. On March 5th, 1885, he was married to Miss Johanna Mildred Davis of Summerville, to which union seven children were born. They are Dixon S. of Trout, Neely D. of Bunkie, Wm. Morris of Memphis; Thos. Sim of Jena; Mrs H. N. Tannehill of Trout; Mrs J. H. Luttrell of Alco; and Miss Katherine Butler of Ruston; all of whom, with their mother, survive him. He was educated in the public schools of Caldwell Parish and studied medicine under the late Dr. W. V. Taylor, of Olla, after which he attended Memphis Hospital Medical College, graduating in 1886. He moved to Summerville immediately after graduation and made his home at that place until 1907, when he moved to Trout and had continuously resided there and practiced his profession up until the time of his death. All of the children were born at Summerville. Dr. Butler served as president of the LaSalle Parish Medical Association in 1922 and was one of the leaders in that organization for several years. He took an active part in the division of Catahoula Parish when LaSalle Parish was created and always identified himself with the social, civic, and religious activities of his parish and community. In his forty-seven years of practice in LaSalle Parish, he endeared himself to countless friends, and patients, as was attested by the stream of people from within town and from the country who called during his illness and from the large concourse of friends who attended the funeral services to pay their last respects to his memory. Interment was made in the Nolly Memorial Cemetery at Jena, with Rev. J. J. Rasmussen, of Bunkie and Rev. R. H. Staples, of Trout, officiating. ---------- ARTICLE in the Aug 24, 1933, Thursday, edition Headline: Dr. Butler Suffers Stroke Last Friday and is Very Sick The condition of Dr. T. M.
