All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** Date: Oct 20, 1932 Headline: Child Killed Instantly Friday When Struck by Passing Motor Car A tragedy that shocked Jena occurred about 12:15 o'clock Friday afternoon when little Roy Morris Baker, 6 years old, grandson of Mr. and Mrs. J. N. Coleman, was instantly killed when struck by an automobile operated by Jack Wilder, of Monroe. The child is the son of Mrs. R. H. Baker, of Port Arthur, Texas, but has been making his home with his grandparents here for the past three years, since the death of his father. A jury impaneled by Coroner Fred Hamilton rendered a verdict of unavoidable accident. The child was rushed to the office of Dr. Floyd but he was dead before reaching there. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon, when Rev. A. S. J. Neill pronouncing the solemn rites over the little body at the Jena Methodist Church. Interment was in Nolley Memorial Cemetery. Practically every one in Jena knew and loved the little fellow and the sympathy of the entire community goes out to the bereaved mother and grandparents and other relatives.
