Boddie Pioneer Citizen Succumbs at Family Residence An old and venerable landmark has fallen. Mr. G. N. Boddie, after a brief illness, departed this life Thursday, December 26, 1940, in the sanctuary of his home surrounded by those he loved. He was eighty-two years, seven months, and sixteen days old. Mr. Boddie's passing was attended by sadness and sorrow and bitter grief. Yet, mingled with these feelings came a beautiful consoling thought. He answered his Master's summons without complaint or misgiving. His way was clear. He had lived a long, useful, and beautiful life and had made the world better and happier by having lived in it. Mr. Boddie's life was long and eventful. He was born in Grant, South Carolina, on May 8, 1858. During his infancy his father, Rev. David Boddie, a Methodist minister, moved to Louisiana where he preached at Atlanta and surrounding churches. He united with the Methodist church at the tender age of six and remained faithful and true to the end. On January 18, 1880, he and Miss Martha Allen Davis were united in marriage at Summerville, Louisiana. To this union were born Mrs. S. B. Chandler, Ruston, La.; David Allen Boddie; T. A. Boddie, Taylor La.; Mrs. C. K. Mosby, Wichita Falls, Texas; L. N. Boddie, Wichita Falls, Texas; Mrs. S. J. Barbre, New Orleans, La.; Mrs. L. L. Oliver, Shreveport, La.; C. B. Boddie, Jena, La.; and Mrs. Harvey Wilbanks, Jena, La., all of whom survived him except David Allen who died in infancy. He had twenty-seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. In action, Mr. Boddie was energetic and worked with a purpose. In thought, he was alert, had firm convictions and spoke them fearlessly. In his dealings with his fellow man, he was fair, charitable, and sternly just. He was a delightful common, a loving friend, a brotherly neighbor, and a patriotic upright citizen. Because of these sterling qualities he was often placed in positions of public trust, one of which was School Board member of Ward Four, LaSalle Parish. So passed this good and useful man to his infinite reward. It is but natural that we mourn his departure. But it is for us to look forward and prepare for a future meeting where there are no sad farewells. He would have it so;l and though he is gone from our midst, the memory of his noble life, though silent, beacons us on. Besides children and grandchildren, he left his devoted wife, Mrs. Marta Allen Boddie, two sisters, Mrs. J. D. Ferguson of Atlanta, La., and Mrs. Lula Boddie of Bryceland, La., and one brother, Mr. J. H. Boddie of Ruston, La. To the members of the family, we express our deepest sympathy. May the tender mercies of God find lodgment in your hearts and soothe your wounds of grief. God doeth all things well. A friend, E. W. Plummer
