H. Bishop Spends Part of Week in New Orleans Marshal W. H. Bishop returned to Jena Wednesday night from New Orleans where he attended the funeral of his father, who was buried Sunday. While there he stayed over for the Peace Officers' Convention, which was held in the Crescent City Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Mr. Bishop brought back a letter he found among his father's personal effects; he also found newspapers dated February 27, 1910, and a statement dated 1905. The letter, which is incomplete, only pages 19, 20, 23 and 24 being found, is an unusually interesting piece of manuscript, which was apparently written about the time the Federal troops were entering Arkansas, as the letter refers to the writer making a trip with a yoke of oxen, a horse, a slave boy, and of him encountering Federal troops near Batesville, and that he learned the troops were moving on Little Rock. The writer traveled day and night to outdistance the moving army. The letter is written on "foolscap" paper, very legibly penned and with few exceptions, where the ink has faded, it can be clearly read. With Mr. Bishop's permission, The Times will perhaps have the four pages of this letter set into type and carry it in this paper at a future date. It will no doubt prove interesting to many readers.
