DATE: Wednesday, January 2, 2002 Page: 3B Headline: Area Deaths Billy Joe Baum Billy Joe Baum, 68, of Columbia, died Sunday, December 30, 2001, at the North Monroe Medical Center of Monroe. He was a retired painter and sandblaster and a veteran of the Korean Conflict having served in the U.S. Air Force. He was born February 17, 1933 in Pollock to the union of Charles Richard and Lula Laura Treadway Baum. Service were held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, January 1, 2002, at the Pine Grove aposolic Church east of Kelly with the Revs. Johnny barnhill and Heath Barnhill officiating. Interment followed in the New Light Cemetery of Liddieville under direction of riser Funeral Home of Columbia. Survivors include his wife, Jessie Ates Baum of Columbia; one step-daughter, Cheryl Jarrette of Monticelloo; four brothers, Marvin Baum of Pollock, Charles L. Baum of Libuse, Dewey Baum and Travis G. Baum, both of Pineville; six step- grandchildren and eight step-great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were William Baum, James Barnhil, Benny Campbell, A.M. Tomlinson and Henry Townsend. Honorary pallbearers were Elmer Lizenby, Jerry Douglas, and Eddie Proffer.
