Miss Patsy D. Beck, aged 19, died at an Alexandria sanitarium early Saturday morning after suffering for several hours from injuries received when the touring car she was driving was struck by an L. & A. freight train at Midway, one mile west of Jena Friday afternoon. Miss Beck, accompanied by her grandmother, Mrs. Fannie McAnnally, with whom she makes her home on Funny Louis Creek, was enroute to Good Pine, when the accident occurred. It is thought that she did not see the freight train as it approached the crossing at Midway until she was too close to the track. Realizing her danger, the young lady sped her car up in an effort to get across before the train struck, but her efforts were futile and the front end of the engine struck her car, throwing her twenty feet from the scene of the accident, crushing her jawbone, breaking her left arm and shoulder. Mrs. McAnnally was also severely injured, but late reports from the hospital state that her condition is very much improved. Miss Beck was the daughter of Frank Beck and they made their home with Mrs. McAnnally. Besides her father and her grandmother, she is survived by her one uncle, Charles Whatley, of Trout, and two aunts, Mrs. G. T. Reson and Mrs. S. P. LaCroix, both of Trout. Funeral services were held in the Eden Cemetery at four o'clock Saturday afternoon.
