He was a retired deputy sheriff, being the first black Deputy Sheriff to ever serve in LaSalle Parish. He was a member of the Baptist faith. Services were held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 9, at L&A Baptist Church in Good Pine with Dr. Dave Mays officiating. Interment followed in Webster Cemetery of Good Pine under arrangements by Gayden Funeral Home of Jena. Survivors include his wife, Lula Calloway of Jena; seven daughters, Carolyn D. Satcher of Alamogordo, N.M.; Odella Powell of Kansas City, Mo.; Deloris Brown of Carlsbad, N.M.; Mildred Henderson of Carlsbad, N.M.; Katherine Phillips of Riverdale, Ga.; Stephanie Lewis of Pineville; and Valerie Calloway of Alexandria; three sons, Steven Ogletree of Leesville, Stanley Ogletree of Jena, and Tommy Carr of Syracuse, N.Y.; one brother, Ben M. Calloway of Shreveport; one sister, Arrie Lee Calloway of Berkley, Ca.; 22 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
