The Revs. W. O. Lynch and O. W. Spinks, E. W. Day, D. A. Doughty and Paul Nolan conducted the service. Interment was under the direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena. Serving as pallbearers for the final rites were Tommie Tarver, Eddie Price, Buddy Stutson, Billy Ray Stutson, Garland Bailey, Ike Robertson, Lee McDowell and Nelson Fairbanks. Young Coon, only son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Coon of Nebo route, Jena, died of injuries received last Saturday while participating in a student rodeo, sponsored by the Block and Bridle Club at LSU where he was attending college. Full details of the accident were not available but it was unofficially reported that the young man was riding in the Brahma bull riding event. He reportedly mounted on the animal and as the Brahma came out of the chute, it whirled, throwing the young man, either against the chute gate or on the ground at the chute gate. The force of the fall reportedly caused the injuries. There was no indication that the Brahma stomped or gored the youth, it was stated. Immediately following the accident, he was rushed to a hospital in Baton Rouge where he remained in a critical condition until his death early last Friday morning. He was a graduate of Jena High School in 1950 and was active in 4-H Club work, taking particular interest in cattle projects. Following completion of his work at Jena High School he enrolled at LSU, later interrupting his college work for two years service in the armed forces, part of which was spent overseas in Germany. Following his discharge, he resumed his college work, first at Northeast College in Monroe and then transferred back to LSU at the opening of the present term and would have graduated at the end of this semester it was reported.
