All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** Date: Nov 20, 1941 Headline: Pioneer Citizen Dies at Family Residence Nov. 14 Mr. Thomas Jesse Drewett, well known Jena citizen, passed away at his home in Eat Jena Friday, November 14 at 4:30 p.m. after a lingering illness of several weeks, was buried at the Nolley Memorial Methodist Cemetery Sat., November 15 at 3 p.m. with Rev. W. F. Roberts, Rev. Enos Breithaupt, and Rev. F. W. Tinnin officiating. Mr. Drewett was married to Miss Emma Boddie of Summerville in 1895. To this happy union, 5 children were born only one of which is now living. He was a member of the Methodist Church and The Michael Dempsey Lodge No. 327 of Jena. Mr. Drewett moved to this section during the year of 1904 and settled at Nebo where he taught school for four yeas moving to Jena in 1900, where he was the head of the Farmers Union Warehouse for two years. Shortly after the division of the parish he was elected Sheriff and served for ten years in this capacity. For several years, he was Captain and General Manager of the State Penitentiary at St. Gabriel, La. Mr. Drewett was 73 years two months and two days old at the time of his death, having spent his life time in the interest of his state and parish. He made friends with all who contacted him and The Times joins with other friends in extending their deepest sympathy to the bereaved family. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Kinner and Stevens Funeral Home.
