Mex. Robert Davis, 49, of Searcy, dies near Chama, N. Mex., Monday morning, according to a message received by his brother, Odom Davis. Davis died in a fall from a truck, it was stated in the message. The body is being sent home and is to arrive in Alexandria at 2:30 a.m. Friday. Davis was in charge of a sawmill operated by T.A. McDougald of Jena, who is engaged in the lumber industry near Chama. Funeral arrangements were yet incomplete last night. Interment however, will be under the direction of the Hixson Bros. Funeral Home here. The deceased is survived by one son, Prentiss of New York City; three sisters, Mrs. Carrie Massey of Ferriday, Mrs. Mamie Cureington of Searsy, and Mrs. Maggie Davis of Searcy; and four brothers, Odom of Searcy, John of Jonesville, Luther of Chama, N. Mes., and Arthur of Searcy. ****************************************************************************** Date: Thursday, September 6, 1951 Headline: Funeral Rites Held For Robert Davis At Searcy Baptist Funeral services for Robert Davis, 49, who died almost instantly in a fall from a log truck near Chama, N. Mex., Monday, Aug. 27, were held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Searcy Baptist church. The Rev. O.G. Cannon, pastor of the Searcy Baptist church, officiated in the services. HE was assisted by the Rev. James Ganey, pastor of the Mitchell Town Mission, and the Rev. Jesse Norris, pastor of the Pelican Drive Baptist church in Pineville. A military ceremony at the graveside was performed by the Whatley-Flaherty post of Veterans of Foreign Wars, with the post commander, John White, in charge. Interment was in the Thomas cemetery at Searcy, under the direction of Hixson Bros. Funeral Home of Jena. Davis was a member of the Searcy Baptist church. He was a veteran of World War II. He was associated with the LaSalle lumber industry for many years. At the time of his death he was employed by T.A. McDougald, local lumberman, as a sawmill operator in Chama. Survivors of the deceased are one son, Prentiss Leeland Davis, New York City. Three sisters, Mrs. Carrie Massey, Ferriday, Mrs. Mamie Cureington, Searcy; and Mrs. Maggie Davis, Searcy. And four brothers, Odom, Searcy; John, Jonesville; Luther, Searcy; and Arthur, Searcy. Pallbearers at the funeral were Boyce Butler, Erving Stringer, Clyde Germany, Leroy Rodriguez, DeWitt Smith, and Clifton Manchester. The firing squad consisted of Ceasar Winbern, Virgil Terrell, Marion Terrell and Earl Doughty. Color bearers were Milton Swazey and Dick Randall. Color Gaurds were Pee Wee Mason and Russell Neal. The Commander was John White; the Officer of the Day, Gordon Francis; and the chaplain R.D. Kendrick.
