Doughty, were held at 3 p.m., Sunday afternoon in the Pine Grove Cemetery at Rhinehart, with Rev. J. P. Owens, Pastor of the First Baptist Church of Jena, and Rev. J. L. Holt, Pastor of the East Jena Baptist Church, officiating. Interment was in Pine Grove Cemetery under the direction of Kinner and Stevens Home for Funerals. Mr.s Doughty passed away at 9 p.m. Saturday after an illness of three days. Born the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Smith at Brookhaven, Mississippi, on Oct. 31, 1852, she died at the age of 99. She was a member of the Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jason L. Doughty, who died Oct. 11, 1948, at the age of 96. Mr. and Mrs. Doughty were married at Rhinehart on November 30, 1871, and thereafter spent almost 77 years together. Mr. Doughty died less than two months before the end of their 77th wedding year. The longevity of their lives and marriage attracted widespread attention and honor. After the announcement of their 75th wedding anniversary in 1946, they received complimentary letters from practically every state in the Union. The sociology department of a college in Texas requested their picture and sought their advice on how to cope with marital problems. Mrs. Doughty is survived by six daughters, who are Mrs. Mary Etta Spinks, Mrs. Mattie J. Smith, Mrs. Minnie Belle Arthur, Mrs. Ada Viola Hanes, Mrs. Lillie Mae Doughty Arthur, and Mrs. Olivia B. Wilson; two sons, who are W. R. Doughty and James E. Doughty; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Pallbearers at the funeral were J. Doughty, Coy Doughty, Purl Wright, Blanchard Wright, Lawrence Wright, and Sherman (Bo) Wilson.
