Erwin was 19 years of age and died fighting for his country in Vietnam, Southeast Asia. He died Tuesday, December 27th. Funeral services were held Monday at 2:00 pm at Wallace Ridge Baptist Church near Jonesville. Officiating were the Revs. L. C. Coat and C. B. Renfrow. Burial was in Holly Grove Cemetery at Wisner with arrangements by Hixson Brothers Funeral Home, Jena. Military graveside services were held. Survivors are one brother, Ellis Edwin Erwin of Walters, two sisters, Mrs. Bonnie Fannin of Jonesville and Mrs. Francis Earline Hutchins of Vidalia, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ruben L. Erwin of Jonesville. Pallbearers were members of the armed forces. Pallbearers from Fort Polk were Sgt. Dillon, Spc. Clinton, Spc. Toyne, Pvt. Lewis, Spc. Hadden, and Spc. Wilkerson. Bugler was Pvt. Pero. The squad firing a salute to Erwin was comprised of Sgt. Stone, Sgt. Little and Infantrymen Jusinoe, Jackson, Dillon, Jones, Clinton, Inser, Lewis, Toyne, Coburn, and Bowling. The group was led by Sfc. Don R. Glass.
