M. Sub-headline: "Uncle Billy" Edwards is Called to His Last Reward Here An illness of about three years culminated on last Wednesday in the death of William Green Edwards, aged 80 years and 26 days. His death occurred at his home in Jena where he had resided for the past eight years. "Uncle Billy," as Mr. Edwards was known to his legion of friends was born at Cotton Landing, in Catahoula Parish, on March 15th, 1854. He was married in 1876 to Miss Dicy Langram, to which union eleven children, nine of whom, with their mother survive him. They are: John, Tom, and Eugene Edwards of Jena; Henry and Bob Edwards of Ferriday; Mrs. Fred Lees, Jena; Mrs. Walter Bell, Harrisonburg; Mrs. Boyd, Jonesville; Mrs. Chas. Walker, of Jonesville. He is also survived by the following sisters and brothers, Eugene Edwards, Jena; Oliver Edwards, Nebo; Mrs. Bruce Scarborough, Jena; and Mrs. Baylam Smith, Blade. The deceased was a member of one of the pioneer families of this section, the family having settled at Rhinehart many years ago. He united with the Baptist Church when he was 18 years of age and remained a devout member throughout his entire lifetime. Aside from the children, brothers and sisters, there are 58 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren now living. Funeral services were held at the Pine Grove Church on Wednesday afternoon, interment following in the Pine Grove Cemetery, Rev. L. D. Posey, and Rev. T. M. Doughty, officiating. The Times joins in extending sincere sympathy to the family of the deceased.
