Lamar Flaherty, son of Mr. and Mrs. M. F. Flaherty, of Jena, were held at 2 p.m., Wednesday at the Magnolia Cemetery where interment also took place. Dargan Brooks and Tom Ratcliff were in charge of the funeral services which were conducted with military rites under the direction of the local post of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. This post is named the Whatley-Flaherty Post in honor of the deceased. Pfc. Flaherty was killed action Monday, May 14, 1945. This invasion was the third in which he participated, having taken part in the Iwo Jima invasion and one other. During his term of service he received the Combat Infantry Badge, awarded for courage and devotion to duty on the field of battle. He is survived by his daughter, Sharon; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. M. F. Flaherty, one sister, Mrs. Ernest Finklea, of Shreveport, La.; two brothers, Fred W. and Mike A., of Jena. The funeral was under the direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home.
