Gray, 94, of Shreveport, died Monday, January 31, 2000, in that city. He was a native of LaSalle Parish. Dr. Gray was born October 14, 1905, in Trout, to John S. and Lillie Clarke Gray. He graduated from Jena High School before going on to become a dentist. He was a retired dentist who had practiced with his two brothers in Shreveport for over 50 years. He was a graduate of The Normal, now known as Northwestern in Natchitoches. He was awarded his Masters Degree in Chemistry from LSU. He graduated in dentistry from Loyola, in New Orleans, at the top of his class and was named to Phi Beta Kappa. He taught algebra and chemistry for several years in Ruston and helped coach football. He and his brothers operated Gray Brothers Plantation in Bossier City where they were actively engaged in raising cattle. Graveside services were held at 2 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 3, 2000, at Belah Cemetery near Trout under direction of Osborn Funeral Home of Shreveport. Survivors include his brother, Dr. Fred H. Gray of Shreveport; one sister, Mildred Gray Simmons of Trout; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and nephews. The family requests that memorials be made to the charity of donor's choice.
