Glidewell John W. Glidewell, 88, of Olla, died at the LaSalle General Hospital of Jena on Saturday, September 9, 2000. He was a retired oil pumper for the Placid Oil Corporation and was a member of the Olla First Baptist Church. He was born at Selma on Nov. 18, 1911, to the union of Richard Turner and Ola Ingles Glidewell. Glidewell served in the United States Air Force where he received the distinguished flying cross and was also a prisoner of war during World War II. Services were held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 12, at the Olla First Baptist Church with the Revs. Milton Wilson and Woody Rimes officiating. Interment followed in the Olla Cemetery under direction of Riser Funeral Home of Olla. Survivors include his wife, Jean Brown Glidewell of Olla; one son, John Charles Glidewell; one daughter, Theresa Glidewell Gaddis of Jena; two grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were Jonathan Gaddis, Pete Taylor, Richard Simmons, Blake Sims, William Moody, Mac Barksdale, Lee Braddock, and Edward Harris. Honorary pallbearers were Gerald Glidewell and Mickey Riley.
