He had practiced medicine here since graduating from L. S. U. Medical School in 1940. Prior to that, Dr. Gaharan had coached the basketball team at Jena High School for seven years. During that time his team won national acclaim. He served on the LaSalle School Board for one term and also served the parish as state representative for four years. During his schooling, he was president of the LSU Medical Student Council. Funeral services for the well-known doctor will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday (today) at the chapel of the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dan Blake officiating. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Avis Richardson Gaharan of Jena; two sons, Dr. Phillip Gaharan of New Orleans and George Gaharan of Jena; four brothers, P. S. Gaharan Jr., and Warren Gaharan, both of Jena, Lester Gaharan of Tullos and Wilfred Gaharan of Delhi; three sisters, Mrs. Loise Peyton of Utility, Mrs. Lucille Franks of Jena and Mrs. Gladys Wagoner of Tullos; two grandchildren.
