Halley, 82, of Monroe, died Friday, January 7, 2000, at the St. Joseph's Nursing Center in Monroe following an extended illness. He was an active member of the Southside Baptist Church, was an avid musician, fisherman, gardener, and a loving husband, father, and friend. He was born Nov. 28, 1917, in Arkansas, to the union of Averitt Charles and Ophelia Fisher Halley. Services were held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 9, at the chapel of Riser Funeral Home in Columbia with the Revs. Cecil Gregory and Norman Bryant officiating. Interment followed in the Fellowship Cemetery west of Columbia under direction of Riser Funeral Home of Columbia. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Gracie Halley of Monroe; two daughters, Charlotte Ann Noland of Jena and Alaine Carol Edgar of Houston, Texas; one son, Charles "Chuck" Halley of Monroe; six sisters, Odell Allen of Monroe, Louise Farmer of Eros, Ethel Fatheree of Alexandria, Elvie Moore of West Monroe, Evelyn Williams of Eros and Ernestine Williams of Rayville; one brother, Chester Halley of West Monroe; eight grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
