He was born in Georgetown on October 30, 1930, to the union of Thomas and Edith Guin Hemphill. He was retired from Shell Oil Company and owned and operated H&H Compressors, Inc., in Olla. He was also a member of the Charles F. Buck Masonic Lodge in Urania. Services were held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, December 21, from the chapel of Riser Funeral Home in Olla with the Revs. Woody Rimes and Gray Wright officiating. Interment followed in the Olla Cemetery under direction of Riser Funeral Home of Olla. Survivors include his wife, Rose Hemphill of Olla; one son, Tommy Hemphill of Monroe; two daughters, Lynn Gates of Calhoun and Sue Wood of Conroe, Texas; three stepsons, Terry Ranton of Olla, Ricky Ranton of Lafayette, and Todd Ranton of Laurel, Ms.; one brother, Harold Hemphill of Milan, Ill.; 12 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Pallbearers were Terry Ranton, Ricky Ranton, Eddie Johns, Bernard Miller, Billy Bordelon, and Clifton Poole. Honorary pallbearers were Bud Hinton, Alvin Berry, Bobby Nugent, Joe Paul Stevens, and Harold Stevens.
