He was a retired security guard and a veteran of the U. S. Air Force, having served during World War II. He was born January 25, 1921, at Jonesville to the union of Grady and Lora Fairbanks Hawthorne. Services were held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, January 18, at the chapel of Kinner and Stevens Funeral Home of Jena with the Revs. S. B. Spinks and Claude Terrell officiating. Interment followed in the Parums Cemetery near Jonesville under direction of Kinner and Stevens, Inc., of Jena. Survivors include his wife, Nellie Lunt Hawthorne of Jena; one daughter, Judy Hite of Rochester, N. Y.; two sons, Kenneth G. Hawthorne of Jena and Robert A. Hawthorne of Natchez, Ms.; one brother, Vernon Hawthorne of Belah; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Thomas Hite, Thomas Callens, Lester Peyton and Shelton Hawthorne.
