"Uncle Dick", as Mr. Hodges was affectionately known, had been in ill health for several months. Medical skill and loving care were combined to save him, but to no avail and his death cast a veil of sorrow over the hearts of everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. His funeral services were held at the Nolly Memorial Methodist Church in Jena at 3 o'clock Thursday afternoon. Interment followed in the cemetery at the church with Kinner and Stevens local undertakers in charge. The deceased was born in St. Helena Parish October 7th, 1859 and moved to this section while a small boy. He became interested in the affairs of the parish in early manhood and was one of the leaders for parish division. He was engaged in the mercantile business in Jena for approximately 17 years and served as postmaster at the local office for several years. His wife preceded him to the grave four years ago. "Uncle Dick" is survived by one son, Richard B. Hodges, of Jena and one brother, L. A. Hodges, of Rosefield.
