Herrington Died Tuesday, November 19th News of the sudden death of Luther W. Herrington, who suffered a fatal heart attack at his home at 11:30 o'clock Tuesday morning came as a shock to the family and the entire community. Mr. Herrington, apparently in the best of health, was at work repairing a small side walk near his home when he was suddenly stricken. Medical aid was quickly summoned and upon arrival of the doctor the tragic news was revealed. Mr. and Mrs. Herrington and family moved to Welsh some six years ago. Mr. Herrington being employed as driller by the Humble Oil Co., having worked in the Roanoke field and in the Welsh oil field. For the past several months, he was working in Chalkley field near Holmwood. Mr. and Mrs. Herrington purchased the Hiestand property about two years ago and had the home completely remodeled. The deceased and his family have taken an active part in the civic and social activities of the community. Funeral services were conducted at the Methodist Church at three o'clock Wednesday afternoon, with Rev. R. L. Weldon officiating, assisted by Rev. E. S. Brainard and Rev. St. Clair Bower. The choir rendered several special hymns. The pallbearers were Etienne Benoit, Chas. J. Benoit, Percy J. Davidson, J. T. Smith, and Joe L. Campbell of Welsh, and Mr. Geysenknauf of Houston, Texas. Interment was in the Oaklawn Cemetery with the Miller Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Surviving, besides his wife, are four sons, Wyatt, Jennings, Rollo and Herschell; four sisters, Mrs. J. H. Stubblefield of Daisetta, Texas; Mrs. Bertie Wiggins of Silsbeen, Texas; Mrs. Bessie Welsh of Royalty, Texas; and Mrs. Bennie Outlaw of Beaumont, Texas, and three brothers, J. D. Herrington of Silsbee, Texas; Thomas Herrington of Smithville, Texas; and Oscar Herrington of Beaumont. The beautiful floral offering was a tribute manifesting the high esteem in which the deceased was held by the host of friends here. His wife will be remembered as Miss Lela Kennedy, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. E. J. Kennedy formerly of Harrisonburg.
