All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** Date: September 20, 1951, Thursday Headline: Funeral Services for Mrs. Mattie Harris are Held at Midway Funeral services for Mrs. Mattie Ann Harris, 62, who passed away at her home in Jena at 3:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 28, were held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 29 at the Midway Baptist Church. The Rev. Jerry F. Poston, pastor of the Midway Baptist Church, and the Rev. G. W. Reppond, pastor of the Goodpine Baptist Church, officiated in the services. Interment was in the Belah Cemetery, under the direction of Hixson Bros. Funeral Home of Jena. Mrs. Harris was a member of the Baptist church. She was born at Grandon, Mo., on May 4, 1889. She has been a resident of Ward 4, LaSalle Parish, since the year 1900. Surviving her are four sons, Benjamin F. Harris of Jena; William H. Harris of Great Lakes, Ill.; Earl W. Harris, who is serving with the U. S. Navy, and Bobby J. Harris of Shreveport. Four daughters, Mrs. Ethel Drake of Junction City, Kans.; Mrs. Maudie Creel of Winnsboro; Mrs. Juanita Bunn of Crosset, Ark.; and Miss Mattie Lee Harris of San Pablo, Calif. Two Brothers, James A. Springer of Baton Rouge and Joe A. Springer of Shreveport; two sisters, Mrs. Maude Atkinson of Miami, Fla., and Mrs. Vergie page of New Gulf, Tex. Eleven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Pallbearers at the funeral were Bob Jackson, D. Floyd, Cary Prichard, Ivy Smith, Sam Wilbanks, and L. G. Burnham. :
