He was born June 13, 1909, in Gallman, Ms., the son of the late Rev. Fleet Joseph and Mable Lee Treweek Jones, Sr. He was a long time member of Washington Methodist Church where he was a member of the choir. More recently, his membership was changed to Nolley Memorial Methodist Church in Jena. He was a past member of the Kiwanis Club, the LaSalle Golf and Country Club and an avid golfer. Services were held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 1, at Laird Funeral Home chapel in Natchez, Ms., with Rev. John Johns officiating. Interment followed in the Natchez City Cemetery under direction of Laird Funeral Home of Natchez. Survivors include one daughter, Betty Jo Murphy Jewell of Baton Rouge; one son, Fleet J. Jones, III, of Jena; one sister, Mabel Hargroder of Baton Rouge; one brother, Marcus Jones of Baton Rouge; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were James C. Meng, Daniel O'Beirne, Jerry Simonton, Edwin Jewel, Jr., Dr. David Jewell and Michael Hargroder. The family requests memorials be made to either the Washington Methodist Church or Nolley Memorial Methodist Church or a charity of choice.
