Funeral services were held Monday for a young Iberville Parish couple who were drowned in a boat accident near Plaquemine Saturday, Jan. 8. Mr. and Ms. Cecil Knight, the couple, were returning to their home from a shopping trip when the boat capsized in Bayou Sorrel. They were expecting their first child later his week. Knight's stepfather and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Willis Britton, who wee also in the boat at the time of the accident, stated that the outboard motor became tangled in water hyacinth and overturned. Mrs. Knight was unable to swim and her husband remained in the water trying to save her. Their bodies wee found less than three feet apart when they were recovered two hours after their deaths. The bodies were shipped overland to Hixson Brothers Funeral Home in Jena, where the final services were held from the chapel. The Reverends Clarence Wiley, Jonesville Pentecostal pastor, and J. O. McNear, Jonesville Baptist Church, officiated. The rites were held at 2 p.m., Monday. Interment was in the Jena Cemetery. Knight was a native of Clayton, while his wife, the former Allene Mann, was reared near Jonesville by her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Mann.
