All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** Date: November 21, 1935 Headline: Lurry Buried at Alexandria Last Tuesday Sub-Headline: Zenoria Mill Man Dies after Heart Attack last Saturday Walter David Lurry, 59 years old, prominent and widely known lumberman of this section, died suddenly near Kingsville, La., at 6:45 o'clock Saturday afternoon, November 16, 1935. Mr. Lurry was a resident of Zenoria, where he was engaged in the sawmill business, but had gone to the vicinity of Kingsville to confer with a man who training a bird dog for him, and was seized with the fatal attack while in his automobile. He expired before a physician, who was summoned, could arrive. He had been in failing health for a year, but able to pursue his daily avocation. His untimely death will be regretted by a large circle of friends. He was born and reared near Memphis, in Shelby County, Tenn., but came to Louisiana more than 30 years ago, since which time he had been engaged in the lumber and oil business. He had operated sawmills at Colfax, Zenoria, and Alexandria. For years he was connected with the Caddo-Rapides Lumber Company of Alexandria, after the Iatt lumber Company of Colfax, and at the time of his death he was engaged in the sawmill business at Zenoria. He was also interested in the oil business, having been connected with the Montague Oil Company which operated in the Georgetown-Urania field. He was also interested in the oil fields around Shreveport. Mr. Lurry married a daughter of the late Hugh Corry, who died eight years ago. He is survived by four daughters and two sons. They are: Mrs. B. B. Langen, Salinue, Cal.; Miss Theresa Lurry of New York; Walter D. Lurry, Jr., of New Roads; Hugh Lurry of Jonesville; Misses Marguerite and Sarah Frances Lurry of Baton Rouge. He also leaves the following brothers and sisters: A. J. Lurry of New Orleans; Mrs. C. B. Rogers, Miss Ollie Lurry and T. C. Lurry of Memphis, Tenn.; L. L. Lurry of Urania; J. B. Lurry of San Diego, Cal.; Mrs. John E. Richardson of Alexandria. His funeral took place at 3 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, with interment in the Greenwood Memorial Cemetery at Pineville.
