Lawrence volunteered for the Army July 1940, at Barksdale Field, Shreveport, La. He was sent to the Philippines in November 1941. His father, R. W. Lawrence, of Parham, La., was notified by the War Department in May 1942 that his son was a prisoner of war in the Philippines. August 1943 notice came of his death. Relatives attending the funeral from Searcy were Mrs. Maloy Steen and daughter, Frances; Mrs. Kate King of Midway; Mrs. James Hodges of Jena; Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Greer and son, Aaron, of Trout.
