Headline:  Jena Lady's Father Died at his Home in Tioga on Monday

The following death notice will be of interest to the friends of Pleasant lee 
Miles, 80, father of Mrs. Dewey Taylor, of this city.

At Tioga, La., January 20, at 10:20 p.m., Pleasant Lee Miles, the son of 
Yancey Samuel Miles and Cassandra Elizabeth Coker, born Nov. 6, 1855, at 
Bladon Springs, Choctaw County, Alabama, being therefore 80 years, two months 
and 14 days of age.

When in his early twenties the deceased came to Jena and has been a resident 
of the state until his death.  He was married to Martha Elizabeth Smith, 
January 22, 1879, and to this union ten children were born, eight of who 
survive, Mrs. E. J. Falkner, with whom he made his home; Mrs. Oscar Shanks, 
Mrs. Dewey Taylor, Mrs. Tom Price, Miss Annie A. Miles, L. H. Miles, Roy F. 
Miles, and Ray L. Miles.  His wife died in 1917.

Mr. Miles was an employee of the Missouri Pacific Railway for many years 
until he was retired on pension in 1927.  Being of an affable and kindly 
nature Mr. Miles had many friends wherever he lived.  During his lingering 
illness, he was always pleased to see the many friends who called.  He took 
an active interest in politics and was interested in the news of the day.

Funeral services were held at Friendship Cemetery, near Fishville, La., at 2 
o'clock Tuesday, January 21.  The Revs.  Murray of Tioga and Fogleman of 
Pollock conducted the services.
