All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** Date: January 23, 1964 Headline: John Fred Mills of Little Creek Drowns John Fred Mills, 80 year old Little Creek resident, accidentally drowned about 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 18 in a pond near the home of his daughter where he lived. He was walking down a path between the homes of his daughter, Mrs. Mae Sanders and a son, Willie Mills. The two houses are about 200 years apart and the path led next to the pond. It was believed he slipped and fell into the pond and was unable to climb out. The body was discovered about 12:45 p.m. Funeral services were held Sunday, Jan. 19 at 2 p.m. with the Revs. C. B. Renfrow and J. D. Thornhill officiating. Burial was in Hawthorne Cemetery at Little Creek under the direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena. Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Mae Sanders of Little Creek, Mrs. Robbie Dickerson and Mrs. Oneacer Miles, both of Everman, Texas; three sons, Willie Mills and Wilson Mills, both of Little Creek and Word Mills of Tullos; two sisters, Mrs. Ella Stone of Little Creek and Mrs. Clara Evans of Pollock; 16 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. Pallbearers were Fred Sikes, Billy Miles, H. B. Callender, David Fletcher, Weldon Butler and Myron Lindsey.
